Loretta Montgomery – Teen Class

The Church at Asheville

Loretta teaches the Teen Class.

Age of Class:  13 – 18 years

Length of time at TCAA:  16 1/2 years

Favorite verse:  Psalm 18:2  The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

Description of class:  We relax and relate; be true and real with one another while learning about Jesus as well as day to day what living in a teen environment means – incorporating what we learn into their daily lives.

Vision for class:  To teach the teens about God, and developing a personal relationship with Him through Acts 2:38-39.  Also, to teach them how to love and reach out to others by being a light for Jesus (drawing all men unto Him).

From Loretta:  I grew up in a Christian home, surrounded by God and the church from the beginning.  I just followed through the motions of doing “Christian things” that I thought you were supposed to do.  I didn’t know Him, I just knew about Him.  I became very consumed with what people thought of me and was living for acceptance of the world.  God showed me that it wasn’t about great works but a relationship with Him.  He made it clear that I don’t have to earn my salvation or His love (Eph. 2:8-9).  I’m not perfect and still mess up, but God loves me despite my flaws and imperfections.  He has shown Himself to me in His Word, the Bible.  God loved me even at my lowest point and he rescued me from myself and eternal separation from Him.
